Louis XVI Style 18-Light Ormolu Bronze Chandelier After Pierre Gouthière

Unavailable

This extraordinary ormolu bronze chandelier, circa 1880-1890s, is modeled after a design by Pierre Gouthiere (1740-1806), the noted French metalsmith who received numerous commissions from the court of King Louis XVI. It features a fluted stem wrapped in vine, eighteen candle arms with twisted fluting and decorated with acanthus leaves and eagle heads, and flower bud chains. The quality of the casting is exceptional. Its classical and organic style will compliment a Louis XV or English Georgian decor as well. Additional images gladly forwarded upon request.  This same model from the late 19th century was sold by Sotheby's in New York on October 26, 2010, in sale N08672, lot 105, for $22,500 including buyer's premium.
