A Welsh mahogany longcase clock. An arched pediement surmounted by brass finials. Carved decoration to the hood with brass capped fluted columns. Choice veneers to the case with inlays. An attractive arched painted dial with gilt corners and roses with a waterside scene to the arch. Seconds dial and date aperture. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.
Rees Lewis of Newbridge is recorded in Peates' 'Clock and Watchmakers in Wales' book as working from 1830-1840. A longcase clock is noted as being in the Welsh Folk Museum by Rees Lewis.
