Our fine plaque with mirror depicting a beautiful portal to a mosque or mihrab (prayer portal) is crafted from painted and gilt gesso (or plaster) and mounted in wooden frame with Islamic poetry from the Koran inlaid on four sides within geometric parquetry that includes inlaid ebony, plus bone at the edge. Likely based on one of the portals to the Alhambra.

Glass not original.  In good condition, with scattered paint and gesso losses.

Likely from Fernandez de Castro (1847-? ) or Rafael Contreras Munoz (1824-1890), each of Granada, Spain.
