Our client's alabaster sculpture by Adolf Jahn (1858-1941) depicts Nathan the Wise, based on his depiction by the Austrian actor, Adolf von Sonnenthal (1834-1909), from the play, Nathan der Weise, by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing (1729-1781). Included is a tall pedestal in Portoro marble bringing its overall height to 70 in (178 cm).  Signed on side of the figure at the base and numbered 9.

In the Hebrew bible, Nathan was the prophet and advisor to King David. He is known for helping Solomon become the king of Israel. Nathan is described in the Books of Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles, and is introduced in 2 Samuel 7:2 and 1 Chronicles 17:1
