Large Antique French Golden Chalkware Sculpture of Jesus Christ Carrying a Cross

A beautiful and touching Antique Sculpture of Jesus Christ carrying the cross which was found at a French antiques market and is crafted from chalkware. Dating to 1920, this Antique Chalkware Sculpture tells the bible story found in John 19:17, that Christ carried his own cross to the place of his crucifixion. The figure of Jesus Christ looks directly at the viewer with a kind yet penetrating gaze, which seems to echo the Bible passage Mark 8:34, that reads, "...If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me."

His mother was the Virgin Mary, also known as Our Lady or the Madonna.
