This lovely oil on canvas by the German-American, Walter Koeniger (1881-1943), depicts a serene lakeside with blue sky and rolling clouds in the background. Stretcher measures 30" by 24". It is signed by the artist, "W Koeniger" in the lower left corner. Koeniger studied under Eugene Gustav D�cker (1841-1916) and Eduard Karl Franz Gebhardt (1838-1925) at the D�sseldorf Academy. A plein-air painter, he came to the U.S. around 1910 and shortly thereafter became a member of the art colony in Woodstock New York. Fond of winter landscapes, he is known around the world as the "painter of snow". His works regularly sell at auction and in galleries in North America and Europe in the four to five figure range.
