Monumental Antique Berlin KPM Neo-Rococo Porcelain Vase by Kipps
This monumental flower-encrusted vase and stand, measuring 50 by 20 by 20 in (127 by 50.8 by 50.8 cm) is the largest example of KPM we have seen appear for sale online or to appear at major auction in the past ten years. It dates from circa 1880, has a blue sceptre mark, impressed S and cypher, and is characteristic of Alexander Kipps, the Artistic Director of the manufactory from 1858 to 1910. Its exuberant flower modeling and rocaille scrolls exemplify the Neo-Rococo style Kipps introduced in the late 19th century. The front features an applied, life-size female mask and suspending pale-blue drapery swags. The sides are applied in high relief with rich bouquets of tulips, roses, poppies, strawberries and other flowers. The socle and stand are decorated similarly. Provenance: Christie's.
