John Koch Studies for '64 "Night" Oil Painting

Unavailable
Included here are two original studies by John Koch (1909-1978) for his 1964 oil on canvas entitled "Night". One is a very early study (on paper measuring 9.5" by 12") showing a television on stand with subject in the background. The other (on paper measuring 12" by 17") is a late study that bears close resemblence to the final painting. The rear of this sketch has the artist's stamp in blue ink and the hand-written words "study for night". Both are pencil drawings on paper. "Night" was last exhibited at the exhibition entitled "John Koch...Painting a New York Life", held at the New York Historical Society in Manhattan in 2001. Images of the exhibition catalogue are shown below. Our client commissioned a portrait by Koch in the 1960s and these (and other drawings being sold separately) were given to her by the artist in the late 1960s. Details on provenance provided upon request. (Serious inquiries only please.) Thanks for visiting. Please let us know if you have any questions or comments.

Additional images gladly forwarded upon request.
