THIS IS WONDERFUL INUIT ART ESKIMO CARVING /COMPOSITION, CARVED BY WELL KNOWN ARTIST OF THE ARCTIC NORTH - JOHN KAUNAK OF REPULSE BAY - Excellent condition, Measuring about 9 inch long x about 4 1/2 inch wide, and about 3 inch high, While researching i found the following:

Naujaat Repulse Bay, Nunavut Honour Appointment Investiture Member of the Order of Canada May 8, 2003 December 12, 2003 A leader within his community and a talented artist, John Kaunak has played a vital role in preserving his ancestors' customs and values. Former mayor of Repulse Bay, he has served on many local and regional committees and on the Kivalliq Regional Council. Through exhibits of his soapstone and bone carvings in Canada and abroad, he has promoted this art form for more than four decades. Widely respected for the depth of his knowledge of the land, he continues to act as a protector of Inuit traditions by teaching time-honoured skills to the youth of Nunavut. REPULSE BAY WAS ORIGINATED BY THE HUDSON'S BAY COMPANY BY OPENING A POST IN A REPULSE BAY ABOUT 1916 - POPULATION IS ABOUT 700 AND The COMMUNITY RELY ON TRADITIONAL SEALING,FISHING, HUNTING, TRAPPING AND CARVING, THEY ARE KNOWN AS INUIT ARTISANS ESPECIALLY FOR CARVINGS FROM STONE, MARBLE etc.
