Hummel "The Runaway" Christmas Ornament

Unavailable

This is an original ornament available exclusively from The Christmas Ornament Collectors Club.  Sister Hummel's whimsical portrayal of a typical childhood adventure was first published in January, 1937.  A bright, warming sun beams down on the small boy, who is whistling merrily as he sets off through the meadow.  He is carrying just a few belongings, his walking staff, kit bag, and a small mandolin.  Accompanying him are two bright yellow birds that echo his cheery song.  There is little doubt in the viewer's mind that the happy little wanderer will change his mind and return home safely before nighttime sets in.  The outfit worn by the youngster, lederhosen, a short jacket and jaunty hiking hat, identify him as coming from Bavaria, as was Sister Hummel.  Surrounding the charming portrait of The Runaway is a gleaming circlet finished in 24kt gold.  The design of its delicate filigree includes the birds, flowers, and musical instrument featured in the painting.  The ornament is individually hallmarked and registered.  This original ornament was available exclusively from The Christmas Ornament Collectors Club in 1987.
