Underhill Socket Framing Chisel / Slick 1.50 inch

$129.00
Quantity available: 1

Nice old heavy duty 1.5" wide socket framing chisel/slick marked "UNDERHILL EDGE TOOL CO." on the steel.  It is 16.25"long overall. It is from the mid-1800's era and made in the laminated process with the distance in this case of 5.75" back from the cutting edge is lamination hardened tool steel on the bottom and softer (non-brittle) steel on the top.  It has been used but is in good working order. It has some tiny edge dings in the steel, but the cutting edge area is in great shape. The cutting edge is straight, sharp and ready to use. There is no rust, very little wear, no damage on the steel. The handle is in solid condition, fits the socket very well and has an iron ring on the end fitted nicely, no abused but has a few small splinters of wood missing. The handle is not cracked, very sturdy. Underhill is one of the well known edge tool makers, known for the quality of the steel and the process of lamination and tempering the steel for long use and lasting edge sharpness between sharpening. The back could be referred to a round-back since there is a large radius cut from center to edge on both sides.  A very heavy duty designed! One hard to find quality tool!
