Georgian secretary desk with a bookcase was hand crafted about 1830 ca. in England. The old finish is very well preserved with antique character - marks, wear Mahogany wood has delicate inlaid banding and warm patina. The top drawer is false, they drop to form a desk top. This style of desk was often called a "butler's desk" - in a large household, the butler was the head of staff and kept records in a desk like this. Inside is a natural saddle leather writing surface and contrasting golden drawers The removable bookcase has a working lock and shelves that are adjustable on sliding grooves.
