From Julia Child's Kitchen Cookbook
The book contains over 687 pages & measures approximately 9 1/2" x 7" x 1 3/4". There are 14 chapters plus Appendix & Index. No dust jacket.
The book is a summation of Julia Child's 25 years in the kitchen. More than just French recipes not only for the expert but novice as well. Beginner recipes and how to become a thrifty & speedy cook. In sum this is a personal & informal collection of recipes and general information, but it has no pretensions of being a complete treatise on cookery. It is complete in itself, however, meaning that you will not need to plow through other sources to cook any of the dishes involved. You will find some repeats from the other three books, inevitable, since how could one have a cookbook at all without the basic sauces , and some of the primary dishes like beef stew, pie doughs, and the like? Inevitably, too, since all of the color TV programs are included, you will find a mousse, a Bavarian, French Bread, sausages, and some other subjects treated in Mastering II. But in every case of repetition I have come up with a different angle or an expanded conception, since it is useful indeed to know several paths to the same dish.
The binding is strong. One corner of the book cover is frayed. The pages are free of stains and writing except for inside first page. Written in ink it reads: Happy Anniversary to my favorite chef all the world. I love you, Sweetie 12/16/74.
