Frank Vining Smith Clipper Ship Oil Painting

Unavailable
This is a framed oil on canvas by the important American nautical painter, Frank Vining Smith (1879-1967). The work depicts a clipper ship in full sail on the open sea, and beautifully lit by a setting sun. The canvas measures 30" by 22". The work resides in a gilded wooden frame with brass nameplate which measures 37.25" by 29.25" by 2.25. The canvas is signed in the lower right corner. Condition is excellent. The work is relatively clean and there is no visible craquelure or signs of repair. We have not inspected the work under UV. and do not have images of the rear. The frame is in excellent condition, but there are a few nicks and dings, and slight wear to the gilding in spots where the red ground shows through. Provenance provided upon request. We photographed the work both with and without flash, which explains the subtle differences in color seen in our images. The shots with flash tend to bring out the red tones in the sky and especially those reflected off the white sails. The shots without flash tend to provide a more accurate depiction of the golden yellow color of the gilded frame. This item resides with our clieint in Westchester County NY and may be seen by appointment. Additional images forwarded upon request. ( dualant )
