Ford Motor Co Assembly Line Is Born Ad 1949 This is a July 25, 1949 advertisement. It is a nice color ad from Ford Motor Company. Ad shows workers working on an assembly line on vintage Fords. Picture by Donald Mills. Ad reads, Early in 1913 Henry Ford observed a watch factory in operation. Idea was instead of having a single group of men make the entire assembly on each flywheel magnet, the unit was to be moved from one worker to another. Why not apply this idea to the whole chassis Mr Ford suggested, So now, along elevated greased rails, each chassis was being pushed by hand as workers added the various parts in sequence. There and then, the assembly line was born. In excellent condition. Photo is taken through plastic and may show wrinkles or crookedness that is not in the ad. This original magazine tear sheet measures 10 1/4 inches wide by 13 1/4 inches tall.
