Exceptionally Rare marked B.F. Landrum Edgefield Pottery Slave Made Alkaline Glazed stoneware bowl C. 1850. Olive brown 11.5" X 5.25" bowl with impressed circular B. F. Landrum Factory mark raised cross or "X" inside. Before the War ended, Landrums factory used only Slave potters and Landrum owed the infamous Slave potter Dave Drake. Landrum was not a benevolent master. A female slave hanged herself inside one of his large pots after he whipped her for not following his orders. Interestingly, during the years Dave drake was owned by Landrum, he wrote no poems on his pots or vessels. Bowl has a crack on the base and around most of the side near the bottom
