During his stay in Washington D.C. as a camouflage expert for the Navy, Warners impressionistic style was at its best. This scene depicts the Fairfax Hotel in Washington circa 1941. Wonderful use of light and depth to contrast the darkened sky. The treatment to the lower half suggests movement by the artist - typical of Warners style during this period. Warner has included his 1941 Ford (lower right) in to his subject. This unusual pastel on paper has a wonderful array of colors and whimsical feel. The painting is pastel on paper laid on board and has a sight size measuring 15" wide by 19" high and an overall size of 19 1/2" wide by 23 3/4" high. Never out of frame. Original condition.
