Description: 24 1/4" length. Iron head with recurved terminal back spike and square hammer face. Flared terminal octagonal bolster and matching hand grip flanking the original wood haft. Head and both mounts decorated with wavy bands of silver overlay, about 80%+ intact and bright. Metal shows smooth dark patina. Haft shows fine rich mottled patina. The cezkan (axe) and obuch (hammer) were favorite weapons of the fabled Winged Hussars of Poland and it is said that the back spike of the obuch could "go through a head or helmet just like it was butter".
