Description: Uniquely Italian sabre. Hilt with single side ring with central ball feature. Knuckle bow with ball finial. Long sweeping reverse quillon with matching ball finial. Faceted bun shaped pommel with button. Somewhat shrunken original leather wrapped spiral wood grip with some wood and leather loss at base. Broad 24 1/4" curved single edged blade with two full length fullers, the lower 9" sharpened on the reverse. Ball and lozenge design in upper 4" of fullers and along the back of the blade for 2/3 of its length. Metal overall with dark patina and mostly light pitting, with a few heavier areas near the point. Sword totally untouched since antiquity. For similar examples, see Boccia/Coelho’s “Armi Bianche Italiane”, examples 545 and 547. The last one of these I had didn’t last a week!
