Description:
This pen and ink drawing was done by French artist C. Vincent and is a caricature of Emile Deschler. Signed and used in an exhibition catalog of Deschler works, this is the proof. Deschler studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Nancy, and was admitted in 1930 to the Ecole National Supérieure des Beaux Arts de Paris in the architecture section where he studied under Roger Expert. He received his diploma in architecture in 1937 and won the médaille d'or de l'Exposition Internationale de Paris the same year. In 1938 he was awarded the Diplôme d'honneur du Comité de l'Art des Fêtes de Paris. 1939-1942 he was awarded multiple voyages for study to middle eastern countries. 1946-1976 he worked on architectural projects throughout Paris, Lorraine, Algeria and Morocco. In 1977 he returned to painting; in 1988 he won the silver medal from the city of Paris; 1991 the Grand Prix 'Maîtrise de l'énergie et de l'environnement of the Salon of the National Society of Beaux Arts. His works have been exposed in the Grand Palais, Paris, the Salon du Dessin et de la peinture à l'Eau, the Salon d'Automne, the Society of French Artist and the National Society of Beaux Arts, of which he became a member. He also exposed in group exhibitions in London, Glasgow, Scotland and Germany. Personal exhibitions included Cairo, Egypt, 1937, Galerie Framond, Paris 1950, Epinal, France 1979-1983, Montrose, Dunkeld, Scotland 1982, Galerie Everarts, Paris 1987 and Stonehaven, Scotland 1989. Deschler was strongly influenced by the philosophy of Leonardo Da Vinci, and used a quote from him in his exhibition catalog, 'To be an artist is not to be skilled in only one subject, practice can make one a good technician. An artist is an explorer who needs to experiment every subject.' Deschler did this, he painted animals, portraits, landscapes, nudes, etc. He did not confine himself to his area of expertise, architecture, although he excelled in this area. This is one of many Deschler paintings from the artists' estate. Email if interested in the others or see my other listings. Our art offerings are not production pieces.
