Description: For Sale I have a Lovely Vase made by The Dugan Glass Company of Indiana, PA. The Vase is in a very desirable Shape. I would call this Shape a "Ruffled Gourd" with "White Frit" Decoration Vase. It has also been brought to my attention that this was called a Celery Vase. In period catalogs it is indistinctly called Venetian, Pompeian, or Japanese, which all refer to imported fashion crazes of the period.

The Vase Displays that ever Popular Cobalt Blue Glass with a Tri-fold Fluted Ruffled Edge. What I mean by this there are 3 Petals that Flair out and over and 3 Rising upwards. The entire border is ruffled very nicely. What makes this an interesting piece is before they executed the Bending and the ruffling is they rolled it in a White Frit Glass Power while the Vase was hot. This picked up the Glass pieces and then it was put back in the oven and fired and the White Frit became part of the Vase. Looking at the top of the Vase they did a Horizontal almost ribbon like edge with the body of the base being done in a vertical direction. You can feel the glass in it.

The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks or dings. The piece is unsigned as is the case with these pieces. This method reminds me a little bit some of the LCT Tiffany Favrile Cypriote Glass examples. This is a quality piece of early American Art Glass. This piece was made very early circa 1898-1906. There is documentation that this was a design in the 1898 Catalog of The National Glass Company in which Thomas Dugan was a Partner. The Dugan Glass Came into being 1902-1906.
