An early to mid-19th Century hand loomed Jacquard Coverlet of cotton and wool, 2 panel construction with center seem,"snow flake and star" design motif, indigo blue, brick red and green, probably Pennsylvania origin, in excellent original condition with no holes, tears, stains or fading, 75" W. including colored fringe, X 84" L. plus 6" long white fringe. In the 19th Century, up until the Civil War Americans liked bright colors and bold patterns in their homes. Coverlets of the era were woven on hand looms with Jacquard attachments by professional weavers. They were easier to acquire than entirely hand sewn quilts of unique design. Production was mostly in the Middle Atlantic and Mid-Western states. We have a collection of many coverlets in exceptional original condition. Please inquire.
