Jacquard Coverlet, probably Pennsylvania, mid 19th century, cotton and wool, seemless, one panel, floral and geometric design with center medallion, unusually colorful with green, purple, brown and red wool on beige cotton, 82" X 84", in excellent unrestored condition, no holes, tears or fading, a very few minor stains, fringe perfect on three sides, unknown weaver. In the 19th Century, up until the Civil War Americans liked bright colors and bold patterns in their homes. Coverlets of the era were woven on hand looms with Jacquard attachments by professional weavers. They were easier to acquire than entirely hand sewn quilts of unique design. Production was mostly in the Middle Atlantic and Mid-Western states. We have a collection of many coverlets in exceptional original condition. Please inquire.
