What a wonderful smoking stand from the Arts and Crafts period. The quality attention to detail and unique design make it a stand out! The stand is made of hand hammered steel, finished to look like bronze. The original finish with its aged look is in exceptional condition. The unusual moveable handle sets on a domed top, allowing the stand to be easily moved and transported to your favorite smoking chair or room. The 2 slanted ends open up to reveal a storage compartment that extends the width of the domed area. One lid lays open to reveal a brass cup which is cleverly designed to rest upright when the lid is up or down. The cup is for your ashes or spent matchsticks. The other lid opens to reveal a holder for your box of matches. When both sides are down, the stand measures 28 wide. Notice the sides of the stand with the imposing large round handles or rings. The rings are repeated on the 2 panels in the front which drops down to reveal a second large storage area. The panel is supported by chains and retains its original working lock with a key. The hand hammered surface with its rivets and strapping add to its imposing and masculine feel. The stand rests on simple forged looking legs and feet. Its condition is excellent, having no breaks or repairs. What a cool item to accent your home!
