Antique Greek Revival Christofle Attributed Silvered Bronze and Matte Crystal Centerpiece
This magnificent centerpiece, crafted from silvered bronze with a frosted glass oval bowl, dates from the last quarter of the nineteenth century, and has been attributed to Christofle. It measures 7.75" tall, 17" wide and 10.5" deep (19.7 cm by 43.2 cm by 26.7 cm). It features griffin-like lion marks at each end and cartouches on each side and is raised on lion paw feet, in the manner of the French Empire Revival and English Regency Revival periods. Condition is very good. The edge of the glass bowl may have been ground down and refinished. We have not found a hallmark, but believe the mark has likely worn away from the underside(s) of the feet. This same model was sold by Sotheby's in New York on November 28, 2006 in lot 100 for $4,500. Additional images forwarded upon request.
