Large black glass inkwell, with “Chinese Gordon Ink Bottle” around the neck, and around the body crossed swords, a portrait of “Chinese” Gordon himself (General Charles George Gordon) with laurel leaves, and “Born 23rd Jan. 1833” and “Died at Khartoum 26th Jan. 1885”. General Gordon was famously killed during the defense of Khartoum. Ink well measures 71 mm high and 117 mm diameter (2.3/4 inches by 4.1/4 inches). It has a screw thread around the top of the well, so must have once had a lid. Shallow well, definitely not a bottle per se. It is in excellent condition - there is one very shallow sliver of glass off the underneath of the well. Not seen unless you turn it upside down. Most unusual item.
