An excellent Vintage designed altar table. The altar's design is true to the Chinese style of narrow and long altar tables. Traditionally, an altar table of this design would have been placed along a focal wall in a prominent room of a Chinese home. A large calligraphy or other type of artistic expression would have been placed on the wall above the altar. On either side of the altar might be large urns or tall tables with porcelain vases atop. On the altar might be items of worship or treasured family items. In front of the altar, the patrons of the home would sit when greeting guests.
The legs of this altar table are rounded and at the top of the legs are winged carvings. The legs are connected to each other, at three locations, providing great structural support. Each end of the top surface area is inverted. Continuing the design tradition, the finish is lacquered black.
Today this table would be perfect as a console table in a foyer, under a wall-mounted TV, or behind a sofa.
