Chelsea ship’'s clocks are universally regarded as the best in the USA, and probably in the world. They have ridden our Navy ships into, and out of, battle since before 1900, and Chelsea clocks have been given by many of our US Presidents to visiting heads of state as gifts, representing some of our country’'s finest work.

The clock is mounted on its original factory stand.

The clock face is 5.5 inches in diameter, the bronze bezel is 7.25 inches OD.  On the stand, it measures 14 inches by 9 inches high. The serial number dates the clock to late 1959, and it was sold to the noted Boston jeweler Shreve, Crump and Low.

Overall condition is excellent. The clock movement was cleaned and oiled in 2010, and it is keeping perfect time, and striking the proper ship’'s bells.

Good vintage Chelsea instruments in this larger size are becoming a bit harder to find than they were only a year or two ago. The size, much more impressive than the usual 4-inch Chelsea series, is considerably more scarce, and will become even rarer as these instruments find homes that may cherish them for years - or generations.
