Carved whitish marble sculpture of Buddhist Guanyin holding a ruyi. A ruyi is a curved decorative object that is a ceremonial scepter in Chinese Buddhism or a talisman symbolizing power and good fortune in Chinese folklore. A traditional ruyi has a long S-shaped handle and a head.
 

Guanyin is the bodhisattva associated with compassion, and is usually depicted as a female. The name Guanyin is short for Guanshiyin, which means "Observing the Sounds (or Cries) of the World"
