This is a nice example of an early iron spoke shave by L. Bailey, pre-Stanley. This one is only marked "PATENTED JUNE 19, 1866", that is the date that Bailey patented this style spoke shave. He later sold the rights to the patent to Stanley. The cutter appear to be original, sharp with very minor pitting. I believe this shave originaly had been painted, but this one has no paint on it at all. There is some minor pitting on one handle of the casting, not bad. A nice looking tool considering it's over 130 years old.
