Very rare Pair of Chinese sleeves daggers, early 19th century. Details: long single edged blades mounted in pale whitish-green jade faced hilts with pure gold bands, the scabbards are made of exotic wood finely carved in chequered panels, solid gold chape is superbly incised with floral ornaments. Sleeves daggers were small enough to be hidden by Chinese aristocracy in a sleeve or elaborate silk robes and particularly useful in a surprise attack. By the Chinese custom it was forbidden to carry swords or daggers in the palace. Total length of the first dagger is: with the scabbard 12 1/8 inches (30,8cm) and without the scabbard 10 ¾ inches (27,3cm). The second dagger is: with the scabbard 11 7/8 inches (30,2cm) long and without scabbard 10 ½ inches (26,7cm) long.
