18th -19th century, Malayan, Islamic sword Galok.
DETAILS: very slightly curved blade with down turned tip, made of Damascus steel with Arabic inscriptions along both sides, horn hilt carved with foliate motifs extending from silver band, plain wooden sheath with silver mounts.
MEASUREMENTS: Total length with the scabbard is 61cm (24 inches)
REFERENCES: a similar Galok with Arabic inscriptions on the blade was in Islamic Art SaleChristies London 19-20 April 1999 lot 404 at the price £ 4,000-6,000.
