French Louis XIV Style Ormolu Bronze Mantle Clock

Unavailable

This tremendous Louis XIV style mantel clock in the manner of André Charles Boulle (1642-1732) measures 43 in (109 cm) tall.  The face is decorated with enameled porcelain numbers, surmounted by a Greek mask. The original key and sunburst style pendulum are present.  There is a small hole in the glass in the lower left corner. Male figures form the four legs and a female goddess on horseback decorates the lower center. The clock is surmounted by a three-dimensional figure of Cronus (or Kronos), the Greek harvest deity known for overseeing crops who is typically depicted with a sickle. We have not yet inspected nor photographed the escapement.  In our 16 years in business we have only seen one other example of this model, which was marked TIFFANY & COMPANY on the escapement. We haven't found such marking on our clock.  Additional images forwarded upon request.
