This is an original bronze chryselephantine statue depicting the Roman Goddess of flowers and spring, Flora (Flore), by Susse Freres of Paris, France. Measures roughly 8" by 3" by 3" and weighs 3 lbs. 5 oz. Cast marks include the title of the work, "Flore", "XVIII Siecle", "Susse F's & J's" (for the founder's name Susse Freres), and the founder's impressed seal which reads "SUSSE FRERES EDITEURS PARIS". This is an exceptional figurine apparently after an unknown master of the an eighteenth century. It is believed to date from the late nineteenth century. Condition is very good. There are no signs of repairs or restorations. The Susse Freres foundry was opened in 1839 by Michel Victor and Amedee Susse. By 1900 the company was operating a large gallery at 13 Boulevard de Madeleine in Paris. This item resides with our client on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York and may be seen by appointment.
