A stunning antique French Empire mahogany and ormolu (gilded bronze) pedestal desk, circa 1880.

The leather writing surface has been hand dyed and highlighted with fabulous hand tooled gold leaf decoration.This desk was made from superb quality solid mahogany, the drawers have hand cut dovetails and the drawer linings are also of solid mahogany. It has a central locking system which is quite rare in antique desks. You only need to close the top centre drawer to automatically lock all the other drawers, so you can then lock the whole desk using only one key.

It is smothered in fabulous ormolu mounts, typical of the Empire period, and has a modesty panel to the rear which when combined with the exquisite ormolu mounts makes for a spectacular look.
