19th century Russian Cossack's / Caucasian sword Kindjal. DETAILS: broad tapering double-edged blade with a slender fuller, an iron hilt, fitted with a pair of horn grip-scales and with chased nielloed silver mounts, in its original black oil skin covered wooden scabbard with a large nielloed silver locket chased in low relief with niello arabesque panels decorated en suite with the kindjal mounts. The inner face of the locket is signed in Cyrillic. The steel chape of the scabbard is a later replacement.
MEASUREMENTS: Overall length with the scabbard: 60,7 cm (23 7/8 in), the length without the scabbard: 48 cm (21 ½ in), length of the blade: 39,5 cm (15 ½ in).
