This large size antique Chinese opium bed is very sturdy. The legs are bold carvings with images of lotus flowers and bats of happiness in black lacquer and gold paint. The apron is waisted and the chocolate brown finish is worn and aged in places. The platform seat has contracted a bit and is made from a lacquered-sealed woven rattan mat over a sturdy wood substrate. It will accomodate a standard size twin mattress as well. This Chinese bed was purchased from the descendants of Chinese merchants whom settled in Indonesia.
