ANtique AMethyst GLass Snake BOOKCHAIN Necklace

THis heavy gilt brass or pot metal necklace is quite wicked and dramatic looking. It has a serpent or snake that resides on top of the huge purple claw set glass stone in the center. The pendant and the two side drops measure 4 3/4" long ( it is a large heavy center piece). The antique bookchain has an unusual clasp which would probably date it in the early 1900's. The sparkling stones around the center piece probably were all garnet but after years of wear had replacement stones of brilliant aurora borealis put in there instead. THis heavy gilt brass is one fabulous treasure that looks like it might have belonged to someone who was quite daring to wear the serpent it carries. The necklace measures 17" long.
