Antique late 19th century Islamic ceremonial Turkman saddle axe of characteristic form. A crescent shaped blade of white metal (alloy of silver) engraved and gilt on each side with a winged griffin and lions surrounded by a scrolling motif with a short domed central finial and down-curved rear fluke/spike engraved with scrolling vines. A tubular haft constructed of iron, brass, and copper, inlaid in silver ad gold, fitted with fifteen rings composed of flattened roped silver wire and brass bands with chiseled and gilt traditional Turcoman scrolls between. Enclosed by a basal cup with a loop for suspension. Overall length in approximately: 73.5 cm (29 in)
