Antique 17th century Polish horseman's War Hammer -- Nadziak. Details: A steel faced hammer head with short domed central finial and down -- curved rear fluke and faceted octagonal socket, decorated with silver inlaid scrolling foliage mounted on its original wooden haft covered with its original light brown fabric, fitted with a tubular steel grip at the base.
A similar Polish war hammer is published in the Sotheby's (Sussex - UK) catalogue Antique Arms and Armour 15 July 1997 lot 76 Title A POLISH WAR HAMMER (CZEKAN) 17th Century with a price of £1000-1500 (13 years ago). We will provide the buyer with a copy of the page from the mentioned reference together with a certificate of authenticity.
These types of the War Hammer were widely used by many Eastern European nations, Ukrainians ,Lithuanians, Russians and Hungarians during the 17th and 18th century.
Condition: In good condition with a smooth dark patina, some minor losses in the fabric.
Overall length: 65.5 cm (25 3/4 in).
