This is Appletons' Annual Cyclopaedia and Register of Important Events of the Year 1876 and is Volume 1 in the new series or Volume 16 in the Whole Series. It is in very good condition, the spine is tight and all of the pages intact with no tears, folds or creases. There is some minor wear in the leather cover at the corners and spine and the picture of President Rutherford B. Hayes transfered through the onionskin page unto the next page (see photos). It was copyrighted by D. Appleton and Company, located at 549 & 551 Broadway in New York, in 1877 and printed in 1879. According to the title page it covers political, civil, military, and social affairs; public documents; biography, statistics, commerce, finance, literature, science, agriculture and mechanical industry. A very nice, informative, period book. This 834 page Annual Cyclopaedia of 1876 is 10 1/8" long, 7" wide and 2" thick.
