Turnbo-Malone, Annie. Poro College School of Beauty Culture. Diploma signed by Annie Turnbo-Malone. Large printed diploma, 15x19 inches, signed by Annie Turnbo-Malone with a large seal.; horizontal crease where folded. Mamaroneck, NY. 22 June 1926 .......... Annie Turnbo (1869-1957) was born in Metropolis, Illinois. She developed her own hair care products, which she sold door-to-door through the African American community of Lovejoy (now called Brooklyn), Illinois. In 1902, Annie moved her business to St. Louis. She trained agents nationwide and began marketing her products under the name "Poro." One of Annie's agents was Madame C. J. Walker. Both became millionaires through the sale of cosmetic, and grooming products.
