Ancient Bactrian copper alloy compartmented stamp seal, circa 2200-1600 BC, of openwork circular form with suspension loop behind.
REFERENCES: Cf. Pittman Art of Bronze Age, fig. 25e; compartment metal stamp seals such as these first appear around 2200 BC and last until about 1600 BC. A similar Bactrian seals was sold at Christies London on 19-20 April 1999 lot 404 at the price £ 4,000-6,000.
CONDITION: deep green patina with earthen encrustation.
MEASUREMENTS: Diameter 4.5 cm (1 3/4 inches)
