Forged steel with small convex axe blade, stamped HYLAND, long looping beak, leaf- form 10" spike, and conical socket with short, heavy integral straps. Mounted on early varnished round-section shaft with ring of brass-head nails.. Could also possibly be a naval boarding axe or pike of some kind. Length of metal 22 ½"; overall 82 1/2".
