Beautifully engraved certificate from the Allegheny Valley Rail Road Company issued in 1855-1856. This historic document has an ornate border around it with vignettes of factory buildings, steamboat, farmers and more. Minor ledger stain on left side. This item is hand signed by the companys president (William Johnston) and treasurer and is over 145 years old. The line of the road was from Pittsburgh, Pa. to Oil City, Pa. and measured 132 miles. The gauge was 4' 9".
