Forty years ago, in 1964, Hasbro created GI Joe, the first "action figure" for boys. His size of 12-inches (30cm), his numerous articulations and his realistic accessories very quickly made him the modern reference in the toy domain.
Better known in Europe under the name Action Man, this articulated adventurer was exploited under various names throughout the world, in France that was Action Joe from 1976 to 1981.
ACTION JOE, THE HISTORY OF THE FRENCH GI JOE retraces the origin of this toy, analyses the technical characteristics of the figures and draws up an exhaustive inventory of the French collection.
Illustrated by numerous photos of action figures, their sets and vehicles, which stem from the author's private collection, this work places the ACTION JOE collection in respect to the peculiarities of other countries' toys and with respect to the modern collections which followed up to our times, since ACTION MAN is still a favourite children's hero in 2004.
