Included here are six (6) original pencil and pastel sketch studies by John Koch (1909-1978) for his 1967 oil painting entitled "The Plasterers". Here are brief descriptions and dimensions of each sheet:
Standing Plasterer, white pastel on grey paper, 12" x 17" Kneeling Plasterer, white pastel on grey paper, 9.75" x 13" Kneeling Plasterer, pastel and pencil, signed "Koch", 9" x 12" The Plasterers, pencil on greyish white paper, signed "Koch", verso signed "Moore 32x41" & "Plasterers 40x50 or 40x44", 10"x13" The Plasterers, pencil, signed "Koch", 12" x 9" The Plasterers, pencil with noticeable matte stain outline, signed "Koch", 5.5" x 5"
"The Plasterers" was last shown at the exhibition entitled "John Koch...Painting a New York Life", held at the New York Historical Society in Manhattan in 2001. Images of the exhibition catalogue are shown here. Our client commissioned a portrait by Koch in the 1960s and these (and other drawings being sold separately) were given to her by the artist in the late 1960s. Details on provenance provided upon request. We will entertain offers on individual drawings in this lot.
