2004/988 Lancaster County Mantel c.1810-1820

Unavailable
A fine and rare Pennsylvania pine mantelpiece which retains the original composition swags and drops with bowknots. At the end of the swags are 3 tablets, hand-carved with fan devices in the Adams' manner. The shelf has 2 projections which agree with a supporting molded band course below. An interrupted central band course to the frieze forms the capitals for engaged turned columns having neoclassic capitals and bases applied to projected plinths. The mantle opening is surrounded with a diced trim section retaining turned mitre blocks. The mantel is presently painted and has an antiqued finish which approximates the original surface when originally installed to a manor house. NOTE: This mantle should be installed by your mechanic in accordance with all local fire and building codes. (#1568)
