2003/976 Richmond Virginia Neoclassic Mantel c.1800-1815
Unavailable
A fine quality neoclassic hard pine fireplace mantelpiece from a residence in Richmond, Virginia. The molded mantel shelf has 2 end projections which agree with plain tablets applied to the mantel frieze. Below the shelf is a rich course of interrupted reeding above a running rope molding. The frieze is crossed with a molded band course which rises above 2 molded pilasters footed on plinths. This mantel in the cleaned state shows beautiful yellow or hard pine figure to the wood. The wood is also without knots and probably was from first growth timber. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting. NOTE: This mantle should be installed by your mechanic in accordance with all local fire and building codes. (#1537)
