Unavailable
To a fine quality hard pine and tulip poplar folk art fireplace mantelpiece. Reported to have been removed from the Front Royal or Strasburg, Virginia area near US Rts. 66 & 81.The arcaded shelf is richly stepped above a course of reeded herringbone. The mantel frieze is mounted with three hand carved poplar tablets enriched with compass flower work. Below is a second course of reed herringbone. The mantel jambs or legs have a convex reeded partial column surrounded by finely moulded poplar trim. The columns are footed on shaped plinths and the interior of the mantel and exterior are mounted with knife edge poplar trim. This example shows a wealth of detail in a restrained manner. The mantel has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, woodwork repairs have been made as necessary and a rich hand rubbed patina finish applied. Should you wish to paint the mantel, use a soft cloth with turpentine to remove any wax from the surface of the mantel prior to painting. NOTE: This mantle should be installed by your mechanic in accordance with all local fire and building codes. (#1472)
